It takes a practice to train a kid

2004-10-22 - 11:53 a.m.

After spending all day in a settlement ordeal -- selling one condo, buying one house -- we finally got the house we want.

And what is it with these guys that process mortgages that makes them come to you at the very last minute with all sorts of complications that could have been taken care of the day before? They have been looking at the damned thing for weeks and then they spring all sorts of surprises at the very last minute, when they know that there is nothing you can do! (This happened on both ends of the transaction, our buyer's mortgage, and ours!)

Of course, everything is solved at the very last minute (after all they want your money, don't they?), but I can't help to picture a bunch of people sitting around at their office, thinking on creative ways of bugging the heck out or everybody on settlement day. I bet that there is even an office pool for that . . . The one who gives the client the biggest scare wins. Double bonus if it's Halloween season!

But we have the house and now the fun begins!
